“River Rocks" is River Saint Joe's unique shuffleboard-on-ice game. Overlooking the brewery's hop yard, we have three chiller-cooled ice lanes, each of which is 50 feet by 8 feet. Using a broom and a "Rock", you push the curling stones down the ice towards a target underneath the ice. Anyone can play! Please read the “Rules of the Rink”, “How to Play”, and “Ways to Keep Score” sections below before booking.

Reserve and pay for your group's game below.

Contact us at events@riverstjoe.com to book multiple lanes over 2+ hours or if you are interested in reserving private space in a tent or greenhouse, for an additional fee, while your larger group enjoys River Rocks

Need to Know

Please arrive ten minutes prior to your start time to receive instructions and complete waivers.

While we work hard to keep the ice smooth, the rink is outside so will occasionally have imperfections, and the game is weather dependent.

Book Your Lane

The lanes open December 15th and stay open through the first week of March depending on the weather.

Rules of of the Rink:

  • Check in with staff and sign waivers before beginning.

  • Please do not step on the ice. A long pole is near the end of the lane that will help you push back the stones stuck in the middle.

  • If a stone gets stuck in the middle of the lane and you can’t get it with the long push pole, let a staff member know.

  • Please place your drink down when it’s your turn. (Meaning you cannot play with a drink in your hand.)

  • Play nice, and have fun in the cold like a real Michigander!

Ways to Play:

Form two teams of one to two people. These sizes are ideal, but it's not hard to think of ways to play with any number up to six people on one lane. Four or fewer with equal sized teams is best, however, if you're looking to play the entire time. One team is red and one team is blue.

With the blue and red stones on the ice, the teams alternate pushing with the broom their team's colored "Rock" down the ice toward the target.

Ways to keep score:

  • Option 1: The target's outside ring is worth 1 point. The middle ring is worth 2 points. The center bullseye is 3 points. If any part of the Rock is touching the zone, then you get the points. Play to 21.

  • Option 2: After all the stones are pushed, the team with the rock closest to the target's center gets the points. How many points they get depends on how many Rocks they have closer to the center before the other team has their closest. Play to 11.

  • Option 3: Any Rock in any part of the target is worth one point. Play to 11 or 21.

  • Option 4: Sometimes the kids have trouble getting the Rock all the way to the end. If this is the case, play a game with them to see who can push it further down the lane!

  • Option 5: However you want.
